There is some confusion over the date that Amber was last seen. The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) and Charley’s Project both state that Amber was last seen on July 3, 2001. But she is simultaneously listed as having gone missing on September 11, 2001 without an explanation for why that date was published.
Conversely, the Cook County Sheriff’s Office and NamUS states that the last contact with Amber was on September 11, 2001 which would explain why it is listed as the missing date. But then it also repeats that she was last seen on July 3, 2001.
This might suggest that she was last seen on July 3, 2001 but was either (A) only reported missing on September 11, 2001 or (B) was heard from until September, but not actually seen. The specifics however are not clear and witnesses should consider any possible sightings from after July 3, 2001.
