- Salim left Algeria with some other young friends in an effort to find work. He planned to join a friend who was already in Italy. The family says the boat was stopped by Tunisian coast guard after the currents pushed them into Tunisian waters. At the time they believe everyone was healthy but that they were arrested by the Tunisian police.
