Notes
The victim was soft-spoken and would often drop the final ‘g’ from words when speaking. In 1953, Patricia was working as a shorthand typist and was single, still living at home with her family on Inverness Circle in Mount Lawley. It appears that she had told a close friend that she was around two months pregnant at the time that she disappeared. Given the religious nature of her family, it appears she had not told of this. It is not clear if they were aware of who she was dating at the time. At 8:30am that morning, she left home to head towards her workplace at HC Griffin (ANA House, 44 St George Terrace) in Perth. She made it to work and continued the day as usual until approximately 3:00pm (15:00) when she answered a telephone call from an unknown man, parts of which were overheard by her colleague. After a brief conversation, the two agreed to meet at 6:00pm (18:00) though it is not clear if the location is known. In order to make the appointment, Patricia requested early leave and left the office at 4:30pm (16:30). She took the bus back towards Mount Lawley and stopped by Simmon’s Grocery Store at 291 Walcott Street to buy a can of soda at approximately 5:00pm (17:00). She went on to pick up a package (approximately 8” x 9” x 3”) at Osborne’s Corner Store near the crossroads of Clieveden and Walcott, the contents of which are unknown. She then returned to the area near Simmon’s at around 5:45pm (17:45) and was last sighted in that area near the Walcott Street tram terminus (around 400m from her home) at around 6:00pm (18:00) when she was supposed to be meeting the unknown caller.
