- Notes
- The victim was born aroun 1910. Her hair was long and typically worn loose. She had an olive complexion and was tanned. The Crown Motel of Moore, Oklahoma was located on the incredibly busy intersection of US 77 and I-35. It was a hubbub of people moving in an around Oklahoma City, and it was at the bus stop outside that Carol Batterman disappeared. Carol was a young newlywed, married only a couple weeks earlier to a young man joining the navy. Originally from Chicago, IL, the couple had just moved to Oklahoma City and were staying in the Motel while they found a new residence. Carol’s husband was stationed at the Norman training facility and was busy at work while Carol started shopping around for their new home, the first they would have together. The morning she disappeared, Carol’s husband drove the car to his workplace with the understanding that Carol would take the bus to meet him in the afternoon and they would go search for a home together. Carol was last sighted at the bus stop outside of the Motel at approximately 3:35pm. There is no sign she ever actually boarded a bus and nothing has been found regarding her since. Two vehicles were brought into question during the aftermath of the case. The first was a white 1955 or 1956 Chrysler Station Wagon with OK license plates. A witness reportedly saw Carol entering the vehicle willingly. The second was a truck (perhaps a 1953 Ford). A witness saw the vehicle and its driver stop at the curb where Carol was standing; something blocked their view and when it was gone both the truck and Carol were no longer there. Neither vehicle has been identified nor have the sightings been confirmed by police. A local woman who managed the fishing resort near Reynolds Lake and Dam later testified to seeing a white station wagon with two men who appeared to be struggling with a woman. She later noted that she had loaned a shovel to two men who claimed to be fishing but were not carrying their kit with them.
