Notes
On May 28, Mabel was last seen at her home by witness Jim Bryan. Bryan told police that he saw her as he left the house at approximately 12:30am in the wee hours of Sunday morning. Her younger brother Gary said he woke at approximately 2:00a.m. to the sound of dogs barking and what he though was Mabel’s voice alongside those of more than one man. Neighbors walking past at that time also heard loud noises. He went back to sleep but when he woke the following morning, she was gone. The home had two doors. The one facing Willard Avenue was unlocked but closed. The one facing St. John Road was unlocked and left open. Mabel’s bedroom still had the lights on and it appeared she had been in bed. Her pajama bottoms were folded beneath her pillow, but her pillow top was gone. The parents were out of town in Detroit that weekend but hurried home. They later said Mabel would not have had money or a key to the home for use in leaving. Her purse and what little money she did have were still in the bedroom. It did not appear that she had simply runaway.
