Notes
The victim was between 126 - 128 lbs and had straight, light brown hair. Evelyn was babysitting a toddler (age 2) in the house of Viggo Rasmussen, a professor from La Crosse State College and a colleague of her father. Her father became concerned when she failed to call them at 8:30pm (20:30) as expected and when his calls to her went unanswered. Arriving at the home, her father discovered the home doors and windows were locked with only one open - the basement window in the rear of the home. The radio and the lights were still on but it appears the furniture and other items had been moved all around. They found blood in the grass and by the open window as well as a bloody handprint marking the side of the next door home and in a garage. There was also blood inside the home. The window screen had been removed and was leaning on the wall outside with a small ladder nearby. Other widows also had marks as though someone were prying them open. The baby was still asleep, unhurt in her bed. Evelyn's broken glasses were on the floor with one of her shoes in the living room; the other shoe was in the basement. Police believe that whatever occurred happened at approximately 7:15pm (19:15) and the K-9 unit traced her scent to the street. She may have been kidnapped by vehicle. Investigations in the days afterwards uncovered some clothing with blood on them, including a jacket with Evelyn's blood.
