- The victim was a US Navy veteran who moved to Kabul about a decade before he disappeared. He was working there as an independent contractor. He was kidnapped and held hostage by a terrorist group (Haqqani) related to the Taliban. He thought he was meeting someone hiring him for a job, but instead the person took him to the Haqqani group in the province of Khost. The government has not yet been able to negotiate his release. His hair may have been shaved.
