- Hamdi often traveled between Tunisia and Italy while working in Italy. Eventually, he lost his permit in Italy and had to return to Tunisia so he remained unemployed for a long time due to few opportunities locally. Eventually he decided to return to Italy to try to find new work but after the trouble he was in before he could not get a new work permit. The boat he boarded was headed for Marza on the island of Sicily, but the day after he left people began to report the sinking of a boat. There was a video from the passengers that was posted and her husband was shown in the video. His name was not on the list of survivors and others who made it said the 'man with three children' had not made it. Unfortunately, they have never recovered his remains nor has there been any other news.
