192 cm tall, medium build, short, partially bald hair / partially brunette, conspicuous gait with short steps. He weighed more than 220lbs (100kg). Franz was living alone as a pensioner at a house in Pöllau with little social contact. He was doing various small carpentry work on the side. He had just recently started dating a woman he said was from Burgenland, although no one else had met her yet. Then suddenly, he vanished without a trace. His cell phone was found in his home which was unusual since he always carried it with him. Mid-December, shortly after he vanished, a municipal employee from Pöllau claimed to have spoken with Franz in Hartberg. Franz was traveling with an unidentified woman (petite with gray hair). It is possible she was the girlfriend from Burgenland. Then on February 27, 2020, his vehicle was suddenly found at a parking lot in Rust am Neusieder See close to the Seewiese. Inside were his passport, driver's license, and all vehicle documentation. The vehicle was a Silver-Grey Skoda Octavia Station Wagon with Hartberger license plates
