- On August 29, David Martin and his brother-in-law John McHan left in a Dodge Charger on their way to Nauvoo to sell a pile of blue jeans that John's wife had received as payment from a business that went out of business. The car would be found two weeks later on September 13 at a Jagger Lake strip mine pit about 20 miles northwest of Jasper with the blue jeans still inside and the keys in the ignition. Although there was no sign of blood or other evidence, the vehicle had been set on fire twice (once with gasoline and once with diesel fuel). The two men have not been seen since.
