Lilliam was originally from Honduras, and though she spoke English well she was not a legal citizen of the United States at the time of her disappearance. She had presented herself as being a legal citizen from Mexico to friends and may use the same story in the future. She had previously lived in New York, California, and Cullman Alabama. When she disappeared, she owned and operated the Estetica Lilliam hair salon in the Creel Plaza. On May 2, 2021, she boarded a public bus traveling to Atlanta Georgia where she had told friends that she had to attend a legal hearing about her immigration status. She had borrowed $500 for her trip and would have been carrying that on her. Police later discovered that she did not have any appointment for a hearing and likely never intended to make such an appointment given her illegal status. It is not clear in fact if she ever intended to actually go to Georgia at all or if she got off before the destination (or caught another bus later to go onward). It was found that she cancelled her phone prior to disappearing and left her utility and rental bills unpaid. Police believe she may have been running away voluntarily, and that "Lilliam Max" is not her real name.
