Notes
Marta disappeared from Heflin, Alabama on September 30, 2013. She was last seen at her home on U.S. 431 in the Hollis Crossroads area at 4:20 a.m. Marta was originally from Guatemala and most of her family still live there. When she disappeared however, she was living with her sister and brother-in-law in Heflin, Alabama. She was last seen at their home at approximately 4:20am and then presumably left at around school time. When she failed to return from Cleburne County High School that afternoon her family became concerned. Following her disappearance, and unidentified male called her sister repeatedly with the news that Marta was in Alabama, then later again in Atlanta, Georgia, and in Maryland. The phone number was later disconnected and he has never been identified. Marta was not happy living so far away from the rest of her family and is considered an endangered runaway. She had spoken frequently about returning to Guatemala and left a note stating that she was heading home. However, she had minimal money and no job so it is not clear if she would have been able to finance such a trip. She has not been seen since.
