- Notes
- On Saturday, January 21, Ayanna left her aunt's home on West Brunsun Street at approximately 10:00pm (22:00). She never returned. She was living at the time with her new husband of a couple days (NAMUS), Malcolm Theotis Hunter. That night, witnesses heard what appeared to be a gunshot in the apartment's parking lot. Later that same night, Malcolm was witnessed driving her vehicle to an ATM but Ayanna was not in the car. Police later recovered the vehicle and discovered her phone and wallet inside, along with substantial blood in the passenger seat. Ayanna's silver handgun was later found in a vacant lot on the corner of West Adams Street and Warren Road. Hunter's clothes were later found to be covered in blood as well. Hunter initially said he did not know what happened to Ayanna, but he later stated that his aunt shot Ayanna in the chest during an argument. He said the aunt drove away with Ayanna in her vehicle and returned without her. There was no sign of a struggle in the aunt's home. Hunter was convicted of Ayanna's murder but she has never been found. If anyone has any information regarding the whereabouts of Ayanna Smith, please contact the Enterprise Police Department at (334) 347-2222 .
