The victim was between 2'0" and 2'6" tall and 20 - 25lbs; her hair was blonde and curly. Her exact DOB is unknown, but she was 150months old Vilate's family was originally from Monteview Idaho, but had come to the grandmother's home on Newell Steed Ranch (about 7mi from Widtsoe) in Utah for a Fourth of July celebration. Vilate was outside near one of the outbuildings watching people make ice cream when she disappeared. One of her cousins told the family "Vilate has gone up the hill and won't come back", but it is not clear why more details were not forth-coming. Her teddy bear was discovered nearby and dogs tracked her scent to a nearby rural road.
