Synopsis

Plot

Wu Xie, an antique shop owner, discovers a cryptic silk manuscript with an ancient map hidden inside. He teams up with his uncle Wu Sanxing, loyal friend Panzi, enigmatic Zhang Qiling, and strongman Da Kui to investigate its origins. Their journey leads them to raid perilous ancient tombs, where they face deadly creatures and cunning traps. The manuscript points to a missing owner, and as they delve deeper, they uncover clues tied to a mysterious bronze artifact and long-buried secrets.

Each tomb reveals fragments of a larger puzzle, connecting Wu Xie’s family history to ancient mysteries. The group navigates treacherous underground chambers, decoding riddles and battling supernatural forces guarding the tombs’ secrets. As they piece together the manuscript’s meaning, Wu Xie learns of hidden truths about his lineage, forcing him to confront dangerous enemies and make tough choices to protect his team and unravel the mystery.

#️⃣ There are many prequel, sequel, and side stories in the Grave Robber Chronicles universe, but this show is based on the side story “Wu Xie Si Jia Bi Ji” (吴邪私家笔记, Wu Xie’s Private Notes”. It offers an intimate, non-linear glimpses into Wu Xie’s psyche with Handwritten-style doodles of ancient artifacts, travel receipts from tomb raids, candid evaluations of teammates (e.g., quirky notes on “Little Brother’s” stoicism or “Fatty’s” antics), historical musings on Chinese folklore, and reflective essays on the emotional toll of grave-robbing. Technically, it is set before Tomb of the Sea, and shows his transition from naive shopkeeper to haunted explorer.
