Date of the Disappearance*: July 21, 2008
Description: Hedwig Rosa Beck, a 51-year-old Liechtenstein citizen living in Triesen, has been missing since Monday, 21 July 2008. She left her home on Landstrasse around 7:00 p.m. that evening, telling family she was going out for a Nordic walking session.
Nordic Walking is a low-impact fitness exercise where the person goes out walking but uses specially designed poles to help engage their arms, shoulders, back, and core. So she was not hiking, she was just out exercising of an evening.
Witnesses reported seeing her for the final time near Sandhüslerweg (also spelled Sandhueslerweg) in Triesen shortly after she departed. She has not been heard from since, and no confirmed sightings or credible leads have emerged in the years that followed.
Two days later, on 23 July 2008, search teams recovered Beck’s Nordic walking poles and her glasses at Rheinwuhr, a location along the Rhine near Triesen. Despite extensive ground searches, river checks, and appeals for information at the time, the discovery yielded no further clues to her whereabouts.
Beck is described as approximately 172 cm (5 ft 8 in) tall, of slim build, with blond hair and wearing prescription glasses. On the evening she disappeared she was wearing black Adidas trainers (with the possibility of pink footwear or accents noted in some descriptions), and a black jacket.
The Liechtenstein National Police have kept her case active and continue to appeal for public assistance. Anyone with information is asked to contact the National Police on +423 236 71 11 or any cantonal police station.
