Description: Rayan Azarang was living with his mother (‘Hasti M.’) in Graz, Austria, a vibrant city known for its historic architecture and cultural heritage. At the time of his disappearance, Rayan was described as a typical six-year-old boy: energetic, innocent, and full of potential.

His parents arrived in Austria from Iran a few years prior in 2014, suggesting Rayan was born (and held legal citizenship) in Iran as well. They separated that same year and Rayan’s mother was able to obtain full custody while his father received restricted visitation rights. According to the custody agreement, Rayan was to spend weekends (Friday to Saturday) with his father.

On the day of his disappearance, Rayan was apparently picked up by his father from the daycare at approximately 4:00 PM whereupon both would disappear. Police suspect his father may have fled with Rayan back to Iran; although Rayan did not have the appropriate travel documents for such a trip. According to his mother, his father had previously threatened to leave with the child.

If so, it is possible that border patrol, human smugglers, or identity forgers may have observed the child with his father or have information about their location afterwards.
