The Incident

On Saturday, 22 February 2003, the body of an unidentified man was discovered inside a skip in Trafford Park, an industrial area in Stretford, Greater Manchester.

The deceased was a white European male, estimated to be aged between 45 and 60 years old, approximately 5 ft 6 in tall. He had a full beard and a surgical scar to the left of his abdomen, possibly from a hernia operation.

He was believed to have been a rough sleeper or homeless individual who had previously been seen in the Trafford Park area. Limited additional details about his clothing or personal belongings were publicly released, consistent with many cases involving transient individuals.

Greater Manchester Police investigated the discovery. An inquest into the death returned an open conclusion, meaning the exact cause and circumstances of death could not be determined. No signs of foul play were prominently reported, though the case remained suspicious due to the unidentified nature of the deceased.

Despite appeals and efforts by police, including the creation of a facial sketch to aid public recognition, no one came forward to identify him. He did not match any active missing persons reports at the time, and his fingerprints, dental records, or other identifiers did not lead to a name.
