The Incident

Trevor John Furner was a 54-year-old man from Australia who was visiting Kika, Benin when he disappeared under unknown circumstances.

He was originally from Mount Gambier in South Australia. In 2011, he was sentenced to two years and seven months in prison by the Adelaide District Court for importing a commercial quantity of pseudoephedrine, having been arrested in August 2009 after customs intercepted his parcels from Malaysia.

That said, there is little information available about his disappearance in 2014 and whether it was related to the prior incident. The police have not said why he was in Benin at the time. He has failed to contact his family or friends in more than a decade, and Australian authorities have confirmed that he did not re-enter Australia using his passport.
