The Facts
❓Disappearance
Date of the Disappearance*: March 22, 2008
Description: Vashagan Asatryan was last seen one week before his eighth birthday in 2008. Vashagan was a smart child who brought home high grades and was good-natured and responsible. According to one article, he had gone outside with a small shovel he created to collect snowdrop flowers for his neighbors (Link). Family and police do not believe he ran away. Early rumors suggested he may have been kidnapped but were not considered reliable in the investigation. There is some concern he may have been injured in an unreported accident or fell into the water nearby.

Police searched the surrounding river and the closed Akhurian reservoir, but did not find anything after more than a month. The town borders on Turkey and police in Turkey were also asked to watch for the child. Nothing has been found to explain his disappearance.
The details are not specific, but it seems unlikely that the boy travelled from Arapi itself to the reservoir given the distance (5hr + walking); although that seems to be the leading theory (Link). It sounds like either he lived closer to the reservoir than Arapi itself, they believe he fell into the Akhurian River which runs into the reservoir, or there are more details that haven’t been provided. Given that nothing was recovered in the search, it is possible something else occurred – his family does not seem to believe he fell into the water (Link)
