Jack left Kenya in 2000 to study at the University of Saskatchewan in Canada. His parents accompanied him to Jomo Kenyatta Airport, and once he settled in Canada, Jack sent them his new address: College of Engineering – Electrical, 105 Administration Place, Saskatoon, SK S7N 5A9.
He stayed in touch with his family until 2004, when he told his sister he was moving to Toronto to look for work. The family believes he made it there and found employment at a Russian-owned bakery. There are also reports he may have worked with a friend cutting trees.
There are rumors that Jack might have changed his name, though this has not been confirmed. His family is hoping to learn that he is alive and well.
