Notes

Richard and Reagan were last seen with their mom Virginia Uden leaving Riverton, Wyoming. The Udens were last seen leaving Virginia’s mother’s home in the vicinity of the 700 block of N. Federal Court in Riverton at approximately 1:30 p.m. (13:30) on September 12, 1980. They were traveling to meet Virginiaโ€™s ex-husband and their adoptive father Gerald Uden. The plan was for him to take the boys hunting and there was a rifle in the familyโ€™s car.
Nearly a month later, on October 4, the familyโ€™s station wagon (borrowed from Virginiaโ€™s mother) was found vandalized. No one was in the vehicle which was discovered near the 700 block of N Federal Court, close to Dickson Park Road and Trout Creek Canyon in the Wind River Canyon area.

Significant amounts of Virginia’s blood was recovered inside and the scene appears as though someone had attempted to push the vehicle into the canyon until it became stuck on some rocks. They then tried hiding it with pine branches. Gerald Uden and his with Alice Uden were both later arrested and charged with the murder of their spouses. Gerald pled guilty and confessed to having shot them with the .22 Rifle they had taken for hunting. He admitted to having planned the crime in advance, shooting them as soon as they got out of the car at a canal near Pavillion. He initially hid the victims at the Lewiston Gold Mine in the South Pass region before moving them on November 5. He then sealed the bodies into large drums and dumped them into Fremont Lake. Gerald said Virginia was a โ€˜predatorโ€™ and did not show regret for the homicide.
Geraldโ€™s wife Alice was charged with killing her husband Ronald Holtz sometime after Christmas in 1974. She also shot him with a .22 Rifle and dumped his body in an old gold mine shaft. The remains were later found in August 2013. The remains of the Uden family have not been found.
