John was a missing tourist in Israel. He was originally from London, England who disappeared after leaving the Kibbutz Gesher. A ‘kibbutz’ is an small community oriented around a mutually shared economic sector, traditionally agrarian but now increasingly technological. These communities were historically formed as ‘utopian’ cults showcasing a combination of patriotic Zionism and socialism.
Gesher was formed in 1939 by Jewish refugees fleeing Nazi Germany and is located in Northern Israel. During the 1960s – 1970, the Kibbutz was often under assault by PLO Palestinian fighters.
