Disappearance

Date of the Disappearance*: June 8, 2019

Description: Elisabet was raised in a stable, working-class family in the town of Aspe, where her parents, Antonio Ramos and Antonia Alonso, ran a food stall in the municipal market. She grew up alongside two siblings, her sister Gema Ramos and a brother. According to those who knew her, her childhood and adolescence were happy. She began school at the age of three at the Carmelitas school in nearby Novelda and later completed vocational training in administrative studies at a local institute. Academically, she was regarded as an average but capable student.

She went on to work in business administration and office positions in Novelda before marrying a local man from Aspe. The couple had a son, born around 2005–2006. Following their divorce, Elisabet devoted herself primarily to raising her child. Family and friends describe her as kind-hearted, hardworking, and deeply attached to her family, particularly her son, with whom she shared a close bond.

In 2010, at the age of 23, she was arrested by the Guardia Civil for drug possession after returning from a trip to Morocco and was sentenced to three years in prison. She served approximately a year and a half in Huelva prison before being granted third-degree status and transferred to the Fontcalent Social Insertion Center in Alicante due to good behavior. It was during or after this period that she met Kamal. Her family has stated that some of her romantic relationships, including this one (which her mother disapproved of) marked a departure from her upbringing, though they consistently stress that Elisabet was a good person and would not have abandoned her family or teenage son willingly.

Kamal Mohamed Mohamed (also identified in various reports as Kamal Mohamad or Kamal Mohamed) was a Moroccan national born in Melilla, the Spanish enclave in North Africa. He was several years older than Elisabet; sources estimate he was in his mid- to late 30s at the time of the disappearance, although some reports list his age as 32. Forensic assessments later indicated he was likely under 40. He stood approximately 5’11” (about 180 cm) tall and was described as having an average build. While few physical details have been publicly documented, he was known to speak Spanish and possibly Arabic.

Kamal had a documented criminal background linked to drug trafficking. In August 2007, he was arrested as the alleged leader of an organized group involved in the large-scale importation of hashish from Morocco into Spain, primarily through the Murcia region. The arrest formed part of “Operación Chárter,” a major law enforcement operation that resulted in the seizure of three tons of cannabis resin and the arrest of 26 individuals, including two Guardia Civil officers accused of facilitating the operation. Kamal later served a prison sentence and was released several years before meeting Elisabet.

Following their disappearance, Kamal’s family (spread across Spain, other parts of Europe, and Morocco) took part in search efforts, with his mother involved in the early stages. Investigators have noted his alleged connections to criminal networks as a possible factor in the case, although limited information is available regarding his personal life outside of his criminal record, including his education or employment history.

Elisabet and Kamal were both reported missing on June 8, 2019, after disappearing from a recently purchased chalet and adjoining farm property located along the road between Aspe and Crevillent, in Spain’s Alicante province. At the time, the couple had been renovating the property, carrying out work on the house, swimming pool, and storage areas, with the intention of establishing a business there. They had been in a relationship for approximately three years and were living together in Aspe.

Authorities classified the disappearance as suspicious from the outset, as neither personal belongings nor vehicles were found, and there were no indications of a voluntary departure. Kamal’s family filed the initial missing persons report, and police forces in Spain and abroad carried out extensive searches and checks, but the investigation yielded no significant leads for nearly three years.

🪦Recovery

Date the Body was Recovered: February 6, 2022

Description: On February 6, 2022, a local resident discovered human skeletal remains in a ravine known as Barranco del Grifo, on the outskirts of Elche, approximately 6 to 10 kilometers from the couple’s property. Investigators later determined that the remains belonged to two individuals buried together in a shallow grave.

Forensic analysis revealed that the bodies were bound and gagged with adhesive tape, indicating that the deaths were the result of a violent crime. Examinations suggested that Kamal showed evidence of physical torture prior to death, while Elisabet likely died from asphyxiation. It appears that Elisabet had her hands bound in front and was killed first. Kamal had his hands bound behind him and was killed last. There is some suggestion in the news that the death was linked to an armed robbery of a substantial amount of hashish that had occurred previously (Link).

DNA testing, conducted using samples provided by family members, confirmed their identities shortly after the discovery. Investigators believe the killings occurred around the time of their disappearance in 2019.

The case is being handled by the National Police’s Violent Crime Unit (UDEV) in Elche. No arrests have been made, and the investigation remains open. Authorities have indicated that the leading hypothesis involves a possible settling of accounts linked to criminal activity, potentially connected to drug trafficking, although no suspects have been formally identified.

@thesuitcasedetective

We initially shared Elisabet’s story in 2020 when she was listed as a missing person in Spain. Little information was available at the time regarding her disappearance barring that she had disappeared from Aspe in the Alicante Region of Spain on June 8, 2019. We regret to share the sad news that Elisabet was found deceased on February 6, 2022. Our sympathies are extended to her family and loved ones and we are grateful to Jose who provided us with the update. With the discovery of her remains, more details about her disappearance have come to light. Elisabet and her boyfriend Kamal Mohamed vanished from their country home where they were doing repairs in June 2018. They had met in prison where Kamal served time for his role in an international drug trafficking ring with connections to his home country of Morocco. The disappearance was deemed suspicious. On February 6, 2022, the remains of both Elisabet and Kamal were discovered by a local citizen abandoned in a grave in a ravine about 6 miles from their home. They had been bound and gagged with duct tape and Kamal showed signs of torture. The cause of death is not public information and the case remains unsolved. https://thesuitcasedetective.com/2020/12/08/missing-person-elisabet-ramos-alonso #TrueCrime #truecrimetiktok #truecrimetok #truecrimecommunity #truecrimestory #truecrimetok
