On Monday 19 September 2016, Robert Deshawn Childers left his residence and has not returned. He had been distressed earlier that day according to his roommate, David Nix. Nix told police that Robert left home between 9:00 - 12:00pm but did not say where he was headed. He just locked up his truck and walked on; he was not carrying much if any money on him. His medicine was later discovered in an area South of the home. Nix's testimony was not entirely consistent and a witness later said they saw Nix and Childers together after the time when Nix had said Childers left home. The neighbor also stated that Nix and Childers had often fought previously. Nix is not a formal suspect in Childers' disappearance. There is some concern that Childers was either disoriented or hurt in a property dispute that he was involved in with a man named Leroy Darby. Darby wanted Childers to vacate a home he was trying to take over, but Childers had refused. There is no evidence to suggest however that Darby was involved in Childer's disappearance. His direction of travel is unknown at this time.
